Naples is a fantastic city to explore, whether you're visiting as part of your cruise or setting it's where you're setting sail from. It can be especially magical when you plan a trip with your other half. There will be plenty of things to do in Naples, no matter what your interests are so even if you and your partner are like chalk and cheese, this city is the ideal couples getaway.

Culture Vultures

For those who love soaking up culture and history on a trip, there's nowhere better than an excursion in Naples with MSC Cruises. You and your partner can immerse yourself in either - or both - thanks to the array of world-class museums in and around Naples.

The National Archeological Museum of Naples is often viewed as one of the most important in the whole of Italy because of its collection of ancient Greek, Roman and Renaissance art, as well as artefacts recovered from Pompeii and Herculaneum in 79 AD. In the midst of the San Domenico Maggiore is the Sansevero Chapel Museum, which houses the masterpiece of the Veiled Christ, while at the Museo di Capodimonte you'll find breathtaking art set in the beautiful surroundings of Palace of Capodimonte.

Of course, you should also take the time to explore Pompeii and Herculaneum for yourself during your trip to get a real taste of Naples' history.

Old Romantics

There are few places more romantic than the Italian Riviera and the Bay of Naples is home to some of its most beautiful stretches so you shouldn't be stuck for choices when it comes to having a mid-afternoon stroll. The Castel Nuovo dominates the skyline of Naples and is easily one of the most breathtaking sights the city has to offer. Five circular towers and a triumphal arch make the castle, which has stood since 1282, a romantic destination for any couple. Its proximity to the Piazza del Plebiscito means the castle is not only easy to get to, but can be just the start of romantic day strolling through some of Italy's most stunning architecture.

Capri is a small inhabited island that is known for being a haven for the rich and famous but also for its rugged coastline. You can get a boat from Naples to Capri that takes just under two hours, leaving you plenty of time to explore the island. If heights don't bother you, why not enjoy a chair lift to Anacapri for the best views?

Something A Little Different

If you're the type of couple who like to find an adventure rather than get some R&R, then why not climb Mount Vesuvius? It stands as the only volcano in Europe that has erupted in the last century, and a hike will take around 30 minutes. Once at your summit, you'll have the opportunity to stare into the crater and take some truly incredible photos.

On the other end of the scale, you could explore the secret underground world of Naples. The San Gennaro Catacombs near the Basilica dell’Incoronata, are a network of tunnels lined with ancient graves and crypts. Take a guided tour to make sure you get the real story of Naples' history and why the catacombs are so important. It may not be everyone's idea of a perfect date but will certainly give you the opportunity to get close to each other.
